Instant payments and open banking

The speed of payment services is advancing rapidly. Instant payments are becoming a preferred payment method across Europe and soon, all banks in the eurozone will be required to support them. A new regulation by the European Parliament mandates that, starting January 9, 2025, banks must be able to receive instant payments and from October 9, 2025, they must also be able to send them. Outside the eurozone, instant payments in euros will be available two years later.
